Why cats claim it
A cat's whiskers are packed with nerve endings. Press them against the walls of a deep bowl at every mouthful and plenty of cats start pawing the food out onto the floor instead. At 5.91 in across there is nothing to press against.

Whiskers are packed with nerve endings. When a cat has to push them against the walls of a deep bowl at every mouthful, some cats find it uncomfortable enough that they eat around the edges, paw the food out, or leave food behind. A wide, shallow dish removes the problem entirely.

No. Each dish holds a normal portion of wet food comfortably. It is not the right dish for water, though. For water you want something with more depth.
The dishes sit flat and low. A determined cat can still shift any dish this size, so put it somewhere it can back into a wall if that is a problem.

Yep..a catshaped plastic plate
It has low edges which is ideal to prevent the cat's whiskers from getting in the way while eating. The only drawback is that, since there is no non-slip rubber on the bottom, the bowl moves around. Easy to clean.
