Watch a cat eat from a flat dish on the floor and you will see them bend their neck down and forward for the whole meal. Raising the bowl and tilting it toward them lets them eat with their head level. It is easier on the neck, and cats who bolt their food and then bring it straight back up often do better with it. Older cats with stiff joints notice it most.

A cat's whiskers are packed with nerve endings. Pressing them against the walls of a deep, narrow bowl at every mouthful bothers some cats enough that they eat around the edges, paw the food out onto the floor, or leave food behind. If that sounds like your cat, choose a wide, shallow dish. If your cat eats happily from anything, it is not something you need to fix.

If your cat pushes food out of the bowl, go for something wide and shallow like the Whisker. If they crane their neck or bring food back up, go for a tilted bowl like the Crest, Pillar or Pebble.
